There are a few things to highlight here. First that it is God that saves alone. He does not need our help or for us to establish our worthiness. We call because we’re desperate. We turn to Him because there is no other who can help. We are judged in our sin already, separated from our Creator and living with the sentence of death hanging over our lives.

Second, God steps in because He can and wants to help. He will not come uninvited. So there needs to be these elements present for salvation. 1) Awareness of our true condition of sinfulness before God and his absolute right to be the judge. 2) Willingness to call on Him and to throw ourselves on His mercy. 3) Open acknowledgment that He has faithfully kept all He has promised because you believe the word of the One who has promised eternal life.

The reality is that He is door. We enter because He has taken our punishment on himself and given us His life. We cannot enter apart from Him. We cannot stand in God’s presence without Him. He must live in us and through us. We must give ourselves to Him so that He is able to put that sinful person to death in His body and give us new life. We are quickened (spiritually made alive) in Him. He now lives in us and we will not die. We now may dare to stand in the presence of a Holy God.
